Research overview
VIP, or vasoactive intestinal peptide, is a 28-residue neuropeptide with a C-terminal amide (HSDAVFTDNYTRLRKQMAVKKYLNSILN-NH2). It is studied through VPAC receptors in neuroimmune, gut-tissue and neuroendocrine signalling, using receptor-expressing cell lines, immune cells and isolated tissue preparations. Supplied at 5mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.
VIP acts mainly at two class B G protein-coupled receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2, and more weakly at PAC1. These receptors couple to Gs and raise intracellular cAMP, with some coupling to phospholipase C in certain cells. VIP is widely distributed in the nervous system and gut. Cell and tissue studies describe roles in immune cell cytokine regulation, relaxation of isolated tissue strips, epithelial secretion and neuroendocrine release, and its short half-life in biological media is an experimental consideration.
Laboratory use includes cAMP and receptor-binding assays in VPAC1- or VPAC2-expressing cells, cytokine release assays in macrophages and T cells, organ bath work on isolated tissue, and neuronal culture studies. Because it is cleaved quickly by peptidases, stability and degradation studies by HPLC are common. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 5mg vial.

Questions
Which receptors does VIP act on?
VIP binds VPAC1 and VPAC2 with high affinity and PAC1 more weakly. All three are class B G protein-coupled receptors, and VPAC1 and VPAC2 mainly signal through cAMP.
How is VIP supplied and stored?
It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 5mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light, and reconstitute with a suitable laboratory diluent only when the material is needed.
Is VIP a medicine?
No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
