Research overview
SNAP-8, or Acetyl Octapeptide-3, is an acetylated octapeptide, Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH2, that mimics part of SNAP-25. It is studied for SNARE-complex and neurotransmitter-release mechanisms in cell-free and cell-based systems, where it is compared with the native protein region it resembles. Supplied at 10mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.
SNAP-25 is one of the three SNARE proteins, together with syntaxin and VAMP, whose assembly drives fusion of vesicles with the plasma membrane and so the release of neurotransmitter. SNAP-8 is described as an analogue of the N-terminal region of SNAP-25 that may compete with it for a place in the SNARE complex and so destabilise its formation. Evidence for this mechanism in cell-free and cell-based systems exists, but much of the published data comes from cosmetic-science and supplier studies, and the strength of the effect is debated.
Laboratory work includes cell-free SNARE assembly assays by fluorescence or gel shift, vesicle fusion and release assays in cultured neurosecretory cells such as PC12, and comparison with longer SNAP-25-derived peptides. Peptide stability in media is followed by HPLC, and control peptides with scrambled sequences are used to show that any effect depends on the specific residues. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial.

Questions
What does SNAP-8 mimic?
SNAP-8 mimics part of SNAP-25, a protein of the SNARE complex that helps vesicles fuse with the cell membrane. It is an eight-residue peptide that is acetylated at one end and amidated at the other.
How is SNAP-8 supplied and stored?
It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light, and reconstitute with a suitable laboratory diluent only when the material is needed.
Is SNAP-8 a medicine or a cosmetic?
Neither. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, cosmetic product, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
