Research overview

PEG-MGF is the 24-residue mechano growth factor peptide carrying a polyethylene glycol (PEG) group at its N-terminus. It is used to look at IGF-1 splice-variant signalling and at how PEGylation affects the stability of the peptide. Supplied at 2mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.

PEGylation attaches polyethylene glycol chains to a peptide to increase its hydrodynamic size. In the wider peptide literature this is reported to slow enzymatic degradation and clearance. For MGF, the question studied is whether the E-domain peptide keeps its activity in myogenic cell models once it carries a PEG group, and how long it stays intact in media compared with the unmodified peptide. Published data on this specific compound are limited.

Laboratory use includes side-by-side stability assays against unmodified MGF, mass spectrometry and size-exclusion chromatography to characterise PEGylated species, and myoblast proliferation and signalling assays run alongside the unmodified peptide. The formula and weight listed for this product describe the peptide backbone only and exclude the PEG group. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder.

Storage and handling

Store the lyophilised powder cold, dry and protected from light, and allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Reconstitute with an appropriate laboratory diluent and keep reconstituted material cold.

Certificates of analysis

Each lot of PEG-MGF is released with a certificate recording identity and purity. Enter the lot number printed on your vial on the lab testing page to view it.

Questions

What does the PEG group change compared with MGF?

The peptide backbone is the same 24 residues. The PEG group increases molecular size and is investigated for its effect on stability and persistence in media. The formula and weight listed refer to the backbone, not to the PEGylated product.

How should PEG-MGF be stored?

It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 2mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light, and reconstitute with a suitable laboratory diluent only when the material is needed.

Is PEG-MGF a medicine?

No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
