Research overview

MGF, or mechano growth factor, is a 24-residue synthetic peptide modelled on the E domain of an IGF-1 splice variant, also called IGF-1Ec. It is studied in vitro and in preclinical models of mechanotransduction in myogenic cells and growth-factor signalling. Supplied at 2mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.

Splicing of the IGF-1 gene produces several isoforms. The Ec variant, named MGF in rodents, was reported to be expressed in mechanically stressed and damaged tissue, and its E-domain peptide has been proposed to act separately from mature IGF-1. In myoblast cultures the peptide has been reported to promote proliferation and delay differentiation. Whether it works through the IGF-1 receptor or another route is disputed, and not every group has reproduced the effects.

Researchers use the peptide in myoblast and satellite-cell culture assays that measure proliferation, migration and differentiation markers, in receptor phosphorylation studies, and in comparisons against mature IGF-1 and PEGylated forms. Because short peptides are cleared quickly in culture, stability profiling by HPLC is also common. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder.

Storage and handling

Store the lyophilised powder in a freezer, protected from moisture and light, and let the vial reach room temperature before opening. Reconstitute with an appropriate laboratory diluent and keep reconstituted material cold.

Certificates of analysis

Each lot of MGF is released with a certificate recording identity and purity. Enter the lot number printed on your vial on the lab testing page to view it.

Questions

How does MGF differ from PEG-MGF?

PEG-MGF is the same 24-residue peptide backbone with an attached polyethylene glycol group. PEGylation is investigated as a way to change stability and persistence in media, whereas MGF itself is unmodified and expected to degrade faster.

How is MGF supplied and stored?

It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 2mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light, and reconstitute with a suitable laboratory diluent only when the material is needed.

Is MGF a medicine?

No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
