Research overview
SS-31 is a mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, where Dmt is 2',6'-dimethyl-L-tyrosine. It is studied in cells and isolated mitochondria for cardiolipin binding, bioenergetics and the handling of oxidative stress, and is built from alternating aromatic and basic residues with a C-terminal amide. Supplied at 10mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.
The Szeto-Schiller peptides alternate aromatic and basic residues, giving them a positive charge that is reported to let them cross cell membranes without a transporter and accumulate in mitochondria. SS-31 is described as binding cardiolipin, a phospholipid concentrated in the inner mitochondrial membrane. The proposed outcome is stabilisation of cristae structure and of electron transport complex organisation, with less formation of reactive oxygen species under stress.
Researchers use it in isolated mitochondria and in cultured cardiomyocyte, neuronal and kidney cell models, where it is tested against oxidative or ischaemia-like stress. Common readouts are oxygen consumption, membrane potential dyes, reactive oxygen species probes and electron microscopy of cristae. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial.

Questions
What does the Dmt residue do?
Dmt is 2',6'-dimethyl-L-tyrosine, a modified tyrosine reported to give the peptide antioxidant character and resistance to enzymatic breakdown. With the D-arginine, it sets SS-31 apart from natural peptides.
How is SS-31 supplied and stored?
It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light, and reconstitute with a suitable laboratory diluent only when the material is needed.
Is SS-31 a medicine?
No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
