Research overview
ACE-031 is a recombinant fusion protein that joins the extracellular domain of the activin receptor type IIB to an Fc region, and it is also listed as ActRIIB-Fc. It is used to study how myostatin and activin ligands bind in TGF-beta superfamily signalling. Supplied at 1mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.
Activin receptor type IIB is a shared receptor for several TGF-beta family ligands, including myostatin, GDF-11 and the activins. ACE-031 is a soluble version that acts as a ligand trap: it binds these ligands in solution and keeps them from reaching receptors on cells. Studies in cell and preclinical models use it to ask which ligands drive Smad2 and Smad3 signalling in a given system, and to separate effects of myostatin from those of activin and related ligands.
Laboratory use includes ligand-binding assays by surface plasmon resonance or ELISA, Smad2/3 reporter assays in cell lines, and myoblast differentiation work in which ligand-driven signalling is blocked. The protein is large, so aggregation and lot-to-lot behaviour are routinely checked by size-exclusion chromatography. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 1mg vial.

Questions
How is ACE-031 different from follistatin-344?
Both bind myostatin and activin family ligands, but by different designs. ACE-031 is a soluble activin receptor fused to an Fc region, while follistatin is a naturally occurring ligand-binding protein.
How should the protein be handled?
It is a lyophilised powder in a 1mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light. After reconstitution, aliquot to limit repeated freezing and thawing, which can promote aggregation.
Is ACE-031 a medicine?
No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
