Research overview
MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome, within the 12S rRNA gene, with the sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR. It is studied in metabolic regulation and cellular energy homeostasis in cell and preclinical models. Supplied at 10mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.
MOTS-c belongs to a small group of mitochondrial-derived peptides. Reported work in cell and preclinical models links it to folate and one-carbon metabolism, to accumulation of AICAR and to activation of the energy sensor AMPK. Under metabolic stress it has also been reported to move into the nucleus and influence gene expression, including genes with antioxidant response elements. These pathways are still under active study, and many findings come from a limited number of groups.
Laboratory uses include AMPK phosphorylation assays by western blot, glucose uptake and mitochondrial respiration measurements in myotube and hepatocyte cultures, nuclear translocation imaging, and gene expression profiling under stress conditions. Because it is a mitochondrial-derived sequence, it is also a useful model for studying how small open reading frames are annotated. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial.

Questions
What does it mean that MOTS-c is mitochondria-encoded?
Most peptides are coded by nuclear genes. MOTS-c comes from a short open reading frame within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, which is why the name stands for Mitochondrial ORF of the Twelve S rRNA-c.
How is MOTS-c supplied and stored?
It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light, and reconstitute with a suitable laboratory diluent only when the material is needed.
Is MOTS-c a medicine?
No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
