Research overview

Follistatin-344 is a protein that binds activin and myostatin, and it is also written FS344 or FST-344. It is studied in TGF-beta superfamily signalling, where it neutralises ligands that regulate growth and differentiation. Supplied at 1mg as a lyophilised powder for in-vitro laboratory research only.

Follistatin is a secreted glycoprotein that binds activins with high affinity and also binds myostatin and related ligands, which keeps them from engaging their cell-surface receptors. By removing free ligand, it reduces Smad2 and Smad3 signalling downstream of the activin receptors. Several follistatin isoforms exist, produced by alternative splicing and processing, and they differ in how strongly they bind cell surfaces, so naming conventions matter when comparing published studies.

Researchers use follistatin in ligand-binding assays, in Smad2/3 reporter assays where it blocks activin- or myostatin-driven signalling, in myoblast and granulosa cell cultures, and as a control when testing other ligand traps. It is a large protein, so aggregation and activity are usually checked before quantitative work. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder.

Questions

How is follistatin-344 related to ACE-031?

Both bind activin and myostatin family ligands. Follistatin is a naturally occurring ligand-binding protein, while ACE-031 is an engineered fusion of the activin receptor type IIB with an Fc region.

How should the protein be stored?

It is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 1mg vial. Keep it cold, dry and away from light. After reconstitution, aliquot to limit repeated freezing and thawing.

Is follistatin-344 a medicine?

No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a medicine, food or supplement, and it is not for human or animal use. Buyers must be aged 18 or over.
